This feeder requires a 3.5" tall wooden shim around it. You can make your own if desired, or cut down an old hive body or super.

Really a good quality product. Easy to use, my only mistake was mounting it onto a sloping hive, which prevented me from filling it up all the way.
Bees pile up in inner plastic cover and died. Now I fill with wood chips or hay and take off the center cover. No dead bees .
Ordered and placed on hive. Center cover allowed for bees to climb under and several bees died. Hillcrest shipped me for free an updated center cover. It works pretty well but bees can climb through the gaps where the cover snaps onto the feeder.
A bee death trap. Shim must be leaved. Trough does not slope so a large fluid level must be maintained to keep bees from escaping from bottom only to get stuck.
I especially like the price. I can make my own shims. Be sure to fasten them down (I used screws).
