Very nice piece. Functions well and is a great time saving investment.
Pros: saved my aging hands. Uncapping is more manageable. I run 50 hives. Still need a scratcher for a quick run over both sides.
Improvements needed:
- more space to pull the frame ears up. Especially for plastic frames.
- Attachment ears are a little short for uncapping tub. Hoping to upgrade to uncapping tank next year.
What I had to manage differently: run wood and plastic frames separately to avoid mid run uncapper adjustments. Run all hives with consistent # frames in box so comb thickness is consistent. Again avoiding in run uncapper adjustments.
Great improvement to flow. Uncapping is now no longer a bottleneck (the lack of tank is now🤪).
I got this new this year to run 180 supers. Hillco is always great to order from and super fast shipping. It was packed well and arrived in good order. locked right on to the uncapping tank, however the clamps could use some upgrading so they hold tight when pulling up a frame that is tight in the slicer. Overall it didn't really affect me that much once I got going. It slices open the comb great, unless you have comb drawn to shallow, then you need to fork or roller those. I was able to get modestly shallow come to slice by tilting the frame and eventually you can tell quickly which frames will need that extra touch. I am running the hillco 32 frame extractor as well and can uncap, load and spin in about 25 minutes. Over all it is a great uncapping tool for my current size and am considering buying another to keep up with the extractor.
Could use a few minor improvements, but overall a good uncapped. Temp fluctuation and mounting bracket are two of the main areas to improve
It’s works great! Occasionally it’s loosens from the stainless steel tank. With honey laden hands it’s hard to retighten, although a quick hand rinse fixes the issue. Larger knobs might help.
Having said that I give it a 5 star!
